Music App Gaana launches new Ai-based feature

New Delhi: Music streaming app Gaana has added a new product feature for an enhanced music listening experience for its listeners using artificial intelligence.

The app will change music preferences based on a person’s daily mood or a particular occasion, the music service said. It is backed by Times Internet and the new service, ‘AutoQueue’ will allow users to search for a song and it will play similar songs afterwards.

According to the company, this drastically reduces manual search time and solves “listener jamming,” where it’s hard to think of the next song to play. AutoQueue, she says, also makes it easier to discover new music, as listeners are provided with suitable songs they may not be familiar with themselves.

It’s powered by a machine learning algorithm that takes into account the likelihood of songs being heard together (past behavior) as well as similarity in music, tempo/bpm, etc. to predict possible songs a user would like to hear after manually playing a song.

The algorithm analyzes thousands of signals and data points and offers personalized song suggestions. “Our listeners are consuming +30% more music than usual through this feature – and that tells us it’s working,” the company said in a statement.

Gaana also released a trademark film to communicate the ease of listening to music with her. The commercial shows two girls going on a short car ride which turns into a long drive as it continues to play songs they love.

Sandeep Lodha, CEO – Gaana said, “Audio streaming has played a major role in people’s lives and consumption is increasing due to covid. We have always known how to understand the pulse of the Indian listener and with that, we are now going the extra mile to hyper-personalize each user’s app experience, making listening to great music effortless.”

According to data company Statista, the Indian music streaming market will be worth $663 million in 2021 and grow to $1.1 billion by 2025 with a CAGR of 14.2%.
